Don’t let a throbbing head affect your life. Find out how to tackle your sinus headache for good.headaches

Most people will deal with a sinus infection at some point during their lifetime. Unfortunately, a headache may also be part of the equation. We all know that a headache can certainly put a damper on the day and can make it more difficult to get work done. Our Bend, OR, rhinologist Dr. Ryan Gallivan is here to tell you how to better manage sinus-related headaches when they arise.

How do you know that you are dealing with a sinus headache and not a tension headache or a migraine? Well, you’ll also experience other symptoms such as a runny nose, nasal congestion, facial pain and pressure, and possibly even facial swelling. You may notice that the pain originates in your forehead or cheeks and gets worse when moving your head.

If you are experiencing any of these symptoms it’s a good idea to turn to our Bend, OR, ENT doctor if you aren’t able to tackle these symptoms on your own or if you are dealing with severe or persistent sinus-related headaches.

When you seek treatment there are several options out there to manage your sinus headaches. While those with minor symptoms may be able to get away with over-the-counter pain relievers, it’s often important to treat the sinus infection in order to reduce your headaches. While some sinus infections will go away on their own, sometimes antibiotics, decongestants or antihistamines are also prescribed to get symptoms under control.

Besides taking certain medications to alleviate your pounding head, there are also non-medicinal ways to reduce sinus symptoms and headaches. At-home remedies include using a Neti pot or saline nasal spray to clean out blocked sinuses. Using a humidifier in the bedroom can also provide nasal passage with the moisture they need to ease sinus symptoms.

Whether you are dealing with frequent sinus infections or you want to learn more about the other ENT services we have to offer, don’t hesitate to reach out to Northwest Sinus Center in Bend, OR, to learn more about what we can do for you.
